Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas



           
Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas, commonly known as Botafogo, is a Brazilian sports club based in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Founded on September 1, 1894, Botafogo is one of the most successful clubs in Brazilian football, having won 21 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A titles, 3 Copa do Brasil titles, 3 Campeonato Carioca titles, and 2 Copa Libertadores titles. 
     
The club is also known for its successful rowing team, which has won 12 Campeonato Brasileiro de Remo titles. History Botafogo was founded on September 1, 1894, by a group of students from the Praia Grande neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. 
     
The club's original name was Botafogo de Futebol Club, but it was changed to Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas in 1904 to reflect the club's rowing team. Botafogo's first major success came in 1910, when the club won its first Campeonato Carioca title. Botafogo went on to win the Campeonato Carioca title 20 more times, most recently in 2022.
         
 The club also won its first Campeonato Brasileiro Série A title in 1968, and has since won the title 20 more times, most recently in 2013. Botafogo has also been successful in international competition. 
       
The club won its first Copa Libertadores title in 1968, and has since won the title one more time in 2013. Botafogo has also won the Copa do Brasil three times, in 1995, 2006, and 2013. Stadium Botafogo's home stadium is Estádio Nilton Santos, also known as Engenhão.  
       

       
The stadium was built in 2007 and has a capacity of 45,200. Colors and crest Botafogo's colors are black and white. The club's crest features a black and white shield with the words "Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas" written in white. Mascot Botafogo's mascot is a dog named Biriba. Biriba was a stray dog that was adopted by Botafogo players in the 1930s. 
       
The dog became a popular figure among Botafogo fans and was eventually adopted as the club's official mascot. Fan base Botafogo has a large and passionate fan base. The club is known for its "Família Gloriosa" (Glorious Family), a group of fans who are dedicated to supporting the club.

The club has not won a major title since 2013, and has been relegated from the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A twice, in 2014 and 2020. However, Botafogo is a proud club with a rich history. The club is sure to return to its former glory in the years to come.
